Brief Bio
Dr. Dinesh Gauri is a Professor of Marketing, Walmart Chair in Marketing, and Executive Director of Retail Information at Sam M. Walton College of Business at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He was a faculty member at Syracuse University prior to joining the Sam M. Walton College of Business. He has also been a visiting scholar at Dartmouth College, Cornell University and Indian School of Business. He earned his integrated Master in Science degree in Mathematics and Computers from Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, India. He earned a MA in Economics and a PhD in Marketing from University at Buffalo. .

Dr. Gauri’s research and teaching interests are in the areas of Retailing, Pricing, Branding, Customer Relationship Management, Marketing Analytics, Store Performance Measurement, Customer Complaint Management, E-commerce and Shopper Marketing. He has advised or consulted for various companies in these areas as well, and he is a recognized Thought Leader in Retailing. He was ranked 3rd in the world in the retailing journal influence index from 2009-15. His scholarship covers various topics including:

His work involves working on various Mathematical and Statistical Models, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Methods, Discrete Choice Modeling, Econometric Analysis, Scanner Panel Data Analysis, Frontier Methods and Survey Research.

His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Retailing, Marketing Science, Management Science, and Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management. He is currently the Associate Editor of the Retailing area at the Journal of Business Research and he also serves on the editorial review board of the Journal of Retailing and the Journal of Academy of Marketing Science. He co-edited a special issue of the Journal of Retailing on ‘Re-Strategizing Retailing in a Technology Based Era’. He also co-edited a special issue of the Journal of Business Research on ‘Retailing and Emergent Technologies’. He was the chair of the Retailing Thought Leadership Conference held in October 2019 at the Walton College Campus in Fayetteville. The conference attracted more than 150 scholars from around the world focusing on the future of retail. It was a collaboration of 30 universities and over 30 companies.

Dr. Gauri teaches in the undergraduate, graduate and executive programs. He endeavors to bridge the gap between practice and research. He strives towards engaging with practitioners and leveraging their experiences towards motivating his research projects as well as bestowing the knowledge to the students in his classes. He has interacted with and/consulted for senior executives of many corporations, such as Ahold-Delhaize Group, Coca-Cola, Con Agra, Elateral, Field Agent, General Mills, IRI, JM Smucker, Kantar Retail, Kinney Drugs, KS&R, Mars-Wrigley, National Association of Convenience Stores, Nestle, Nielsen, Oracle, Proctor & Gamble, Price Chopper, Saatchi & Saatchi X, Sam’s Club, The Mars Agency, Walmart, Welch-Allyn and WhyteSpyder. He has presented his research and given executive seminars at various universities and organizations.

He is the recipient of many research and teaching awards at University of Arkansas and Syracuse University. He received the Walton College of Business Faculty Research Excellence Award for 2018-19. He received the Davidson Honorable Mention Award for the Best Article published in Journal of Retailing. His dissertation work has been recognized by Fordham University Pricing Center, AMA Retailing SIG and the Miller Center for Retailing at University of Florida. He has also provided expert testimony in court cases relevant to his areas of expertise, and he has been cited in various media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, Post Standard, San Francisco Chronicle and National Public Radio.
